A new 'one stop shop' advice hub is set to open in Sale West, offering vital face-to-face support to residents struggling with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

The initiative, a collaboration between Trafford Council and Our Sale West, builds on a decade of community work by Our Sale West to improve the lives of residents on the Sale West estate.

The Sale West Advice Hub will launch on Thursday 20 March and will operate weekly at the Sale West Youth Centre from 10am to 12pm. It aims to provide information and advice on a range of issues, including energy bills, care support, money worries, housing and health. The hub hopes to replicate the success of the Stretford Advice Hub, which has been running for over a year at Stretford Public Hall every Tuesday.

The initiative follows recommendations from Trafford Council’s Poverty Truth Commission (PTC), which was established to tackle poverty and its root causes across the borough. Among its key recommendations were improving access to services for residents, using the voices of those with lived experience to shape policies, making public transport more accessible and addressing mental health and isolation.

The Sale West Advice Hub will bring together a wide range of organisations and services, including Trafford’s Housing Options Service, Adult Social Care, Irwell Valley Housing Association, family hubs, the family information service, budgeting support, Trafford Carers Centre, Citizens Advice, Scope and Energyworks. This collaborative approach ensures that residents can access comprehensive support under one roof.

Councillor Ben Hartley, Labour and Cooperative Party councillor for Ashton-upon-Mersey, expressed his enthusiasm for the new hub, stating: “It’s great to see a new 'one stop shop' advice hub being opened on Sale West. This builds upon the fantastic work by Our Sale West over the last 10 years to improve the lives of residents on the Sale West estate.”

It is hoped that this new initiative will mark a significant step forward in providing accessible, practical support to Sale West residents, ensuring no one has to face the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis alone.
