Manchester Marathon 2023: Route, road closures in Sale

Tens of thousands of people will be pounding the streets through Sale this Sunday (16th April 2023) for the Manchester Marathon.

Starting on the A56 close to the Old Trafford football ground, the 26.2-mile race will be following its now familiar route through Greater Manchester with a substantial section through Sale. 

How are roads in Sale affected on the day?

Bus travellers and drivers should expect diversions on the day, with many roads completely closed for several hours, including parts of Cross Street, Washway Road and Dane Road. 

Road closures in Sale include:

  • Cross Street: Fully closed 7.30am - 4pm. Closed southbound 4pm - 7.30pm

  • Dane Road: Closed 7.30am – 7.30pm

  • Chapel Road, Broad Road, Northenden Road, Derbyshire Road: Closed 9am - 6.45pm

  • Marsland Road, Cromer Road, Beaufort Road, Brooklands Road: Closed 8.30am - 6.15pm

  • Washway Road: Closed northbound 7.30am-1.30pm
