Sale Town in Bloom: Community initiative to transform urban into green space begins

Sale town centre is set to bloom with vibrant colours and green spaces as the ‘Sale Town in Bloom’ initiative officially kicked off last week. The project, aimed at revitalising the town centre with plants and flowers, began as pupils from Springfield Primary School helped to create a wild garden.

On the corner of Sibson and Springfield Road, the young students teamed up with the Sale Town in Bloom team to develop three large, circle-shaped beds in a grassy area facing St. Paul’s Church.

The children prepared seed bombs with seeds, compost and clay and scattered them onto the new garden beds. In anticipation of a colourful display in the coming months, the area will also see the introduction of bird and insect boxes to aid in plant pollination.

The initiative is spearheaded by Tony Martin, Stanley Square’s general manager and chaired by Jane Poole, a local resident and gardener known for her involvement in community projects. They have successfully garnered support from local sponsors including MPSL Planning & Design Ltd, CEG of Jackson House, law firm Slater Heelis and cyber security firm usecure Ltd.

As part of the initiative, Sale's central planters along School Road are set to be enhanced by volunteers this May, with additional planters and possibly an edible garden area featuring fruit trees. Local shops and businesses are encouraged to participate creatively, with initiatives such as hanging baskets, window art and entrance displays.

In a community-building effort, the best business display will be awarded a specially made trophy by Bean & Brush Art Cafe and a certificate. Two runners-up will also be recognised and awarded.

Tony Martin expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for the community support: “We are excited to see Sale Town in Bloom finally come to fruition, it is something that has been talked about but has never been initiated, until now!

“Jane and I are extremely grateful for the support that we have so far received from Trafford Council, our amazing sponsors and more importantly the volunteers that are eager to help – after all without the volunteers, this project wouldn’t happen. I am hoping to see local businesses get involved and hopefully we will see some creativity and worthy trophy winners.

“As a proud Sale resident, I am really looking forward to seeing everyone working together for the greater good of our town and community.”

For those interested in supporting Sale Town in Bloom, opportunities range from volunteering, sponsoring or helping with funding.
