The Magistrates' Court granted a three-month closure order today (22 March).

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) announced the closure of IMMYs newsagents, stating:

“Following numerous reports from the community, council staff and GMP officers regarding IMMY’s newsagents, located above Sale Metrolink selling illegal vapes as well as supplying vapes to children Trafford Council’s Trading Standards and Community Safety Teams along with GMP Officers visited the shop yesterday and over 600 illegal vapes were seized, including some hidden in the toilet of the premises.

“Community Safety Officers issued a closure notice to the business and today, the Magistrates Court heard an application for a full closure order in respect of the business. It has been closed for three months and any unauthorised person found on the premises is liable to arrest. Illegal vapes are particularly harmful and vapes should under no circumstances be sold to children. We will work with partners to shut down retailers who flout the law and put our communities and young people at risk.”

A closure order typically prohibits people accessing the address and the police can apply for an extension to the time period.
