Premier Inn looks to demolish restaurant for extra 43 rooms at Sale hotel
Plans have been submitted to demolish a Sale hotel restaurant and replace it with a two-storey annex with an extra 43 bedrooms.
Premier Inn Hotels Ltd will increase the size of the car park at its hotel on Carrington Road in Sale to accommodate 116 vehicles (currently 103 cars).
A submission on behalf of the hotel group has been submitted by Walsingham Planning. It proposes the demolition of the Mersey Farm Brewers Fayre Restaurant to make for the extension, alongside alterations to the car park, landscaping and a new external compound for machinery.
Walsingham’s cover letter on the Trafford planning portal says: “This extension is part of a wider refurbishment programme undertaken by Premier Inn Hotels Ltd to rationalise and expand the provision on the site. This scheme has been designed to provide the most bedspace whilst ensuring minimal impact to highways, landscaping and amenity of neighbouring properties.”
The facade design analysis from Allison Pike Architects and Designers states:
"The success of the hotel business is not matched by the restaurant business and even with an increase in overnight stays at the hotel the dining trade has reduced to the point that it is no longer viable.
"In order to retain the viability of the hotel business the decision was taken to close the Brewers Fayre restaurant and replace this with more hotel bedrooms.
“The existing Brewers Fayre restaurant building is a sprawling mass of part two storey part single storey volumes. This convoluted property is not appropriate for conversion into more hotel bedrooms. It is therefore proposed that the Brewers Fayre will be demolished and a replacement building built in its place."
