Greens in Stanley Square closes: a sad farewell to a local favourite

In a shock announcement, Greens Sale has closed its doors permanently today (17 September).

The news was shared on social media, with the team expressing deep regret over the decision.

"It is with deep regret that the board of directors and shareholders have decided to close the doors permanently on Greens Sale with immediate effect. We’ve done everything possible to make this work, but it is now clear the business is untenable," the statement read.

“We’ve done everything possible to make this work, but it is now clear the business is untenable.

“We’d like to thank everyone, team members & guests, who have been on the Greens journey with us.”

Greens Sale, which opened in Stanley Square in 2022, quickly became a much-loved spot for locals, offering creative vegetarian dishes under the ownership of renowned chef Simon Rimmer and Simon Connolly. Rimmer, a familiar face in the kitchen, brought his passion for vegetarian cuisine to the town, continuing the legacy of Greens after the closure of its original Didsbury restaurant earlier this year, following 33 years of service.

The local response to the closure has been one of sadness and disbelief, with many expressing how 'gutted' they are after hearing the announcement. The closure of Greens marks a significant loss for Sale’s food and drink scene.

We wish the staff the best in finding new opportunities in the future.
