New Irish ‘micro-pub’ to open in Sale Moor

Sale Moor is set to welcome a touch of Irish charm as Dubai's Fibber Magee's expands for the first time into the UK.

Fibber Magee's has been serving the expat community in Dubai for over 28 years and is known for its traditional ambience, affordable food and drinks and welcoming atmosphere.

Owner and general manager Ross Matthews-Smith returns to his roots in Sale Moor, having attended school in the area. With his family still living in the area, he is driven by its familiarity and a strong belief in the economic and social potential of Sale Moor.

Speaking to Life in Sale, Ross said: "Sale Moor's revival is our inspiration! My deep connection with the area led to the decision to launch Fibbers in the heart of Sale. We see potential and promise in the economic and social fabric of Sale Moor.

"Fibbers isn't just a pub; it's a commitment to Sale Moor's close-knit community. Sourcing local produce and supporting local families and businesses, we aim to be more than a venue; we aim to be a partner in the growth of Sale Moor."

Ross continued: "In the face of challenges for pubs and hospitality post-COVID, Fibbers stands strong with a micro-pub concept. We believe in the enduring love for pubs in the UK. Fibbers aims to provide the people of Sale with an authentic, traditional and community-centric Irish pub experience.

"Despite the hurdles of high rents and staff costs, Fibbers is here to rekindle the love for pubs in Sale. Our micro-pub concept is a nod to tradition and a commitment to operating efficiently while offering the people of Sale a unique Irish pub experience in South Manchester."

According to Fibber Magee’s website, it is a ‘community-spirited pub, and we welcome people from all walks of life, even dogs! We strongly believe an Irish pub should be a haven for people to come and relax, make new friends, read the paper, sing along, dance and enjoy the craic. As part of our community ethos, we source our produce from local businesses in Sale Moor. By supporting us, you are supporting numerous businesses in the local area.

Our offering is very simple; good, honest, staple Irish produce, the best Guinness in town, live trad music and authentic, charming hospitality.’

Fibber Magee’s debut UK micro-pub in Sale Moor is scheduled to open its doors in April 2024.
