Fantastic - No Plastic Zero Waste Stores – a plastic-free refill shop – was opened in Sale Moor village in May 2021.

The store, owned by Rebecca Whiteside, is on a mission to help Sale’s residents to shop more sustainably. After a couple of years in business, customers have saved thousands of pieces of plastic from ending up in landfill or our oceans.

"In two years, we have saved nearly 12,000 plastic bottles from landfill", said Rebecca.

"And that is just toiletries and cleaning products – it just shows what an impact we are making."

Rebecca has a passion for protecting the planet and since opening the doors to Fantastic - No Plastic has been urging others to think in the same way. But, like many small businesses, the last 12 months have been difficult.

Rebecca said: "The last year has been tough for us like everyone else but being a new business still trying to establish ourselves, it’s been even harder. Who would have thought that when we opened running costs would have risen to what they are now?

“But I don’t like to dwell on the negative; we have an absolutely amazing group of regular customers, some who have been with us since the start and some who are just starting out on their zero-waste journeys. We love seeing how they might have started out filling one bottle to now doing the majority of their weekly shop here.

“Our ambition of course is to appeal to more and more people and bring them in as customers – that would not only be good for us as a business, but the more customers we get, the better it will be for the environment too!”

What is Fantastic - No Plastic all about?

The shop currently has 1500 different product lines, allowing customers to buy pretty much everything they need. This includes refills for body care, cleaning, herbs, spices, pasta, rice, nuts and a lot more.

Customers can bring their own bottles and containers (or buy them in-store), which reduces plastic use and the shop also stocks a range of plastic-free alternatives to everyday items such as washing up sponges and toothbrushes.

The store has also recently started offering home delivery – “plastic-free at your convenience” – which is a brilliant option for those who are unable to visit in-store to do their shopping.

No waste – ideal for those on a budget

An affordable zero-waste shop is important to those on a budget, particularly given the current cost of living crisis. The beauty of Fantastic - No Plastic is that customers can only buy exactly what they need, making it much easier to stick to a fixed budget.

We are hugely lucky to have this store in Sale Moor village, but it needs your support to ensure its future success. Next time you’re passing, pop in and see everything that it has to offer. We have no doubt that you’ll be VERY impressed by its selection.

Rebecca is set to celebrate the shop’s second birthday with a party in-store on Saturday 03 June. Expect giveaways, competitions and cake!

  • Open Monday-Saturday 9am - 5.30pm.
