Death Café in Sale aims to make conversations about death and dying easier

A brand new 'Death Café' is launching in Sale this month – a casual gathering where people can come together for open and honest conversations about loss and their own mortality.

Death Cafe is an opportunity to share a safe space and have open and honest conversations.

Held over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, the Death Café will take place on Thursday 16 November from 6-7.30pm at The Baby and Bump Hideout on Dane Road.

The event is FREE to attend – to book your space email Lynda Royle at hello@ceremoniesbylyndaroyle.co.uk or text/WhatsApp 07599 354420.

From discussing the music you want to be played at your funeral to how you might like to be remembered – the café's no-judgement session is open to everyone.

The conversation will be led by facilitator Lynda Royle, who has a 30-year background in health and social care-related roles and is currently training to be an independent funeral celebrant.

She said: "I was surprised that such a thing as 'Death Café' existed because talking about death is still such a taboo subject in many cultures. Yet we all know we are going to die and we experience the death of others. I believe we need to start talking more openly about death and dying and Death Café events give people this space. This is why I decided to create the Death Café in Sale."

She continued: "Death Café Sale Trafford provides a space which is safe and welcoming for you to chat about your dying and death experiences, concerns, thoughts and views without judgement. All while eating lots of cake and drinking tea! Please do not worry If you are not ready to chat, you do not have to join in the conversation.

"There is no agenda. This is your space and your time. Let us embrace life in the short time we have and get talking about death too!"

The Death Café concept has gone global after being launched in 2011, with thousands of participants getting involved worldwide.

If you are unable to make the inaugural Death Café in Sale on 16 November, the next date is scheduled for Thursday 14 December (6-7.30pm).
