Charity Christmas card pop-up returns to Sale Library
Sale residents and visitors are being encouraged to head to Sale Library to buy their festive greetings cards this year.
This year’s Christmas Card Charity Shop will come to Sale Library on Wednesday 13 November and will be open every day Sale Library is open until the pop-up’s last day on Thursday 28 November 2024.
The fantastic initiative has been going for 53 years and has been an annual fixture at Sale Library.
39 charities will benefit in total, including Stockdales in Sale, with other libraries including Wilmslow and Macclesfield also taking part.
Volunteer Louise Russell said “Making a return for an amazing 53rd time having been started by Sheila Hallas MBE in 1971 and having raised almost £6.5m, the card shops are renowned for giving 100 per cent of sales back to the charities they support, something unique in this day.
"This is possible as all workers in the shops are volunteers and any overheads are covered by the sale of the gifts, wrapping paper, toys and novelties also available in the shops."
Volunteer Jill Dodson said, "Each year charities are finding it harder and harder to raise money."
"Selling charity Christmas cards is one solution that works and selling them through the Christmas card shops works even better as all profits are recouped. The charities also tell us how they love to be involved, manning the shop, whilst chatting to our customers in a lovely, friendly, Christmassy setting.”
