REVIEW: Wood Fire Smoke Sale

Sale’s Stanley Square has an exciting new addition that is likely set to become a local favourite – Wood Fire Smoke. Bringing the authentic flavours of Naples to Sale town centre, this neighbourhood pizzeria offers a quality dining experience.

Wood Fire Smoke Sale

From the moment you step inside, you can sense the passion behind the pizza. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for a casual meal with friends or an intimate date night. The décor strikes the perfect balance between industrial chic and Italian warmth, with comfy booths, high tables and vibrant greenery creating a relaxed yet lively vibe.

But let’s talk about the real star of the show – the pizza. Made with dough that’s been proved for 72 hours, these pizzas are light, chewy and full of flavour, with that irresistible charred crust that only a true wood-fired oven can deliver.

Pesto dough balls from Wood Fire Smoke

You'll remember these pesto dough balls long after you've eaten them!

We kicked things off with the pesto doughballs (£7.95) – soft, pillowy and oozing with fior di latte and garlic oil, these doughballs are the perfect way to start your meal.

Wood Fire Smoke pepperoni pizza

When it comes to the pizzas, Wood Fire Smoke offers something for everyone. The pepperoni (£11.95) is a crowd-pleaser, with generous slices of pepperoni paired perfectly with creamy fior di latte and fragrant basil. If you’re feeling adventurous, go for the Calabria (£13.45), topped with spicy nduja and spianata – it packs a flavoursome punch, ideal for those who like a bit of heat.

The menu is refreshingly simple, but every dish is crafted with care. There are also gluten-free dough options for those who want them. If you’re still peckish, the selection of sides, including crispy arancini and fresh salads, are a great way to round off your meal.

While the restaurant does have its own drinks menu, one of the unique aspects of Wood Fire Smoke is its bring-your-own-alcohol policy, with a very reasonable £2.50 corkage fee per person. It’s a relaxed, no-fuss approach that fits perfectly with the laid-back vibe of the restaurant.

Diego Maradona

The state-of-the-art pizza oven, imported directly from Italy, gives diners a front-row seat to the pizza-making. Watching your pizza bubble and crisp under the intense heat is all part of the experience.

Whether you're dining in or grabbing a takeaway, Wood Fire Smoke has certainly fired up Sale’s food scene and I can already see it becoming a go-to spot for pizza lovers. If you haven’t booked a table yet, trust me – you should.
