Family panto fun: 'Knights and Tights' coming to Sale in February
If you’re looking for a feel-good mix of fun, laughter and plenty of community spirit, The Music Group’s latest pantomime is the perfect February treat. Proudly performing at Ashton-on-Mersey United Reformed Church since the late 1980s, this beloved amateur dramatic group is gearing up for their next original production: Knights and Tights.
The Music Group has always been a little different from your typical amateur dramatic society. Started by Karen Garrattley as a platform for local talent, the group first performed concerts blending singing, comedy and sketches. But their ambition grew and by the late 1990s, Karen's husband Chris suggested they write and produce their own pantomimes to sidestep costly royalties.
Today, Chris still leads the writing team, joined by his children Becky and Luke. This creative trio also star in the shows – Chris takes on the iconic role of the Dame this year, while Becky will appear as The Queen and Luke as The Sheriff of Snotingham. What makes The Music Group truly stand out is their inclusivity. Every cast member, no matter their age, background or ability, is given a unique character to play. Their current cast spans from seven years old to 83, with members of all abilities, including those with SEN, physical disabilities and mental health conditions.
Knights and Tights: a quest for laughs
Set in the legendary Kingdom of Camelot, Knights and Tights follows the Knights of the Round Table and Robin Hood’s Merry Men as they embark on a quest to recover the stolen royal jewels and prove their innocence. Expect plenty of puns, playful antics and a warm-hearted story that the whole family can enjoy.
