Southway Housing Trust’s plans will see the demolition of the Masonic Hall and the conversion of the former Sale Police Station next door to provide 20 apartments and 10 houses.

Plans feature nine three- and 11 two-bedroom apartments along with two one-, six two-, and two three-bedroom houses, all available for shared ownership.

Formerly used for meetings and functions, the Masonic Hall will be replaced by a three-storey residential block.

Constructed in 1882 and 1881 respectively, the Masonic Hall and former Sale Police Station are both currently vacant.

The plans by Southway Housing Trust were a second attempt to get the proposals through and a number of residents complained about the original proposals having inadequate parking and concerns about the height.

Revised plans still do not include car parking spaces, however there will be 30 cycle bays provided. The height of the scheme has also been reduced by removing plans for the top floor and spreading the homes across to the police station.

Lucy Hampson, development manager at Southway, said: “Southway Housing Trust is committed to addressing the affordable housing shortage in Trafford and this development represents an important step forward in meeting the needs of the community.”

The plans were approved at the same council planning meeting that saw Sale cafe Us Four refused permission to extend.
