Totally Locally Sale M33, a campaign group encouraging people to shop locally, is keen to get as many independent businesses involved as possible.

Replacing the previous iteration Fiver Fest, the idea behind the Magic Tenner campaign is that if shoppers spend £10 in a shop that sells goods from local producers, the amount of money that goes back into the local economy can be more than £50.

Totally Locally Sale M33 organiser Claire Hines of Shine gift shop inside Emporium M33 said: "Fiver Fest has been really successful in Sale for the past few years but with the cost of living crisis, businesses were finding it harder and harder to come up with an offer for £5.

"With the new 'Magic Tenner' campaign, we're also promoting a slightly different message: there's a chain reaction when you spend £10 with one small business and it actually helps more than one. If you spend £10 with me, for example, it benefits the maker of the product, Emporium M33, then you've got people that I've worked with on my website, my logo and even the company I buy my packaging from – they're all small businesses!"

Over the past few years, a number of Sale businesses joined the Fiver Fest campaign, which made £5 offers for customers. However, in recent campaigns, that has been a more difficult price point for some businesses to hit.

The Magic Tenner campaign hopes to highlight local businesses in a different way, showing how they support other independents. Businesses don’t need to think about in-store promotions as much – instead, they can promote themselves as a wider collective of local independents.

Claire continued: "It's great for small businesses to get involved – it's extra promotion just before Christmas (potentially to a new audience) and it's been very profitable in the past. It's lovely to be part of the small business community in Sale and to all support each other."

The first Magic Tenner shopping campaign in Sale will run from 07 - 21 October 2023 and any M33 independent businesses wanting to take part should contact Claire Hines at info@shine-shop.co.uk.
