Sale's branch of Halifax bank to close in October
Sale’s branch of the Halifax bank is to close on 30 October 2024.
The business says most customers of the branch on School Road now use a mobile banking app, online or telephone services.
A spokesperson for Halifax, part of Lloyds Banking Group plc, said “Mobile banking is more popular than ever with over 19 million customers choosing our app to manage their money.
"Alongside our app, customers can bank online, over the phone, at a Banking Hub, a Post Office or by speaking to one of our Community Bankers."
The announcement garnered plenty of comments on local Facebook groups, with people saying:
"Banks are closing branches in every town and city. It’s not just Sale. That’s the cost of online banking."
"Very poor. Shame on you Halifax. Whatever happened to customer choice? I much prefer person to person interaction for my banking and I’m not that old! Where are my elderly parents supposed to go now? May need to switch banks"
Lloyds Banking Group said there are alternative banking arrangements in place in the locations it is closing bank branches.
This includes Post Offices, or free to use ATMs, which let you withdraw cash.
All members of staff who work at the branches earmarked for closure will be offered alternative roles at another branch or in another part of the business.
