The Sale bingo branch has closed permanently, after rumours circulated last week.

A consultation to close the Sale venue has been ongoing for several weeks and the majority of employees at the club will be made redundant.

Rank, who operates the Mecca Bingo chain, is reportedly coming up to the end of its lease and has chosen not to renew it due to the building being in “disrepair”.

We have reached out to Rank for confirmation of the closure and will update this article accordingly.

The history of Mecca Bingo Sale

The Mecca Bingo Sale building started as a Lido on the 10th of July 1935. The Lido complex included a 130-feet long covered swimming pool, a domed solarium for natural and artificial sunbathing, a café/restaurant and multiple lock-up shops.

During the winter, the swimming pool could be covered and a dance floor was often formed. You can still see signs today of how handsome the building must have been at its peak, but there is little denying that it is looking very tired in 2023.

In the 1960s, The Sale Lido was taken over by Mecca and re-named the Locarno Ballroom, later Mecca Bingo.
