Manchester Village Spartans RUFC on the hunt for new players
Are you ready to try something new, meet great people and stay active? Founded in 1999, Manchester Village Spartans RUFC was one of the world's first three inclusive rugby clubs – and they are looking for new players.
Why join the Spartans?
Whether you’ve never played rugby before, are looking to get back into the game or simply want to try something new, the Spartans offer a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. With over 25 years of history, the Spartans have not only achieved great things on the pitch but have also become a beacon of inclusivity and community in Sale, Manchester and beyond.
Joe Rooney, now in his fourth season with the club, told Life in Sale, "I joined in 2021 having never played rugby before and I haven’t looked back since! The Spartans have been an incredible space to learn the sport, make lifelong friends and enjoy the game."
Who can join?
Absolutely anyone! While the Spartans are proud to be an LGBT-inclusive club, you don’t have to identify as LGBT to join. The club’s mission is simple: to create a safe, supportive and inclusive space for all who love rugby.
Three squads, one community
The Spartans have three rugby union squads:
Development squad: Perfect for beginners or those returning to the game after a break.
2s squad: Competing in the International Gay Rugby (IGR) leagues against other LGBT teams in the UK.
1s squad: Playing in NORWIRUL Division 4 East, a competitive local league.
If contact rugby isn’t your thing, the Spartans also have a Touch Rugby squad, ideal for non-contact play, with regular social events bringing all players together.
Training details
New player/development training: Saturdays 11am-12.30pm at Sale Sports Club.
Intermediate Training: Wednesdays 7-8.30pm at Sale Sports Club.
