The Labour Party has announced trade unionist Connor Rand will stand as their representative in Altrincham and Sale West at the next general election.

The news comes following the resignation of the previous candidate Ben Hartley, citing "personal reasons" earlier this month.

Connor is a former Labour organiser and senior researcher at shopworkers’ union Usdaw. He said on a social media, “Over the next five weeks I’ll be out every day, talking to voters and making the case for change. I hope to see you on the #LabourDoorstep.”

The selection announcement was made this evening (29 May) on social media by Labour North West. It said:

Announcement from Connor Rand: I am proud to have been selected as the Labour Party’s candidate for Altrincham & Sale West for the upcoming general election.

This is our chance to offer hope for the future, and end 14 years of Tory chaos
