The officer was called to a 'domestic incident' on Beech Road in Sale on Sunday evening (05 May). While responding to this incident, he was hit by a van, police said.

He was left with a fractured leg and is now recovering from his injuries. Kyle Woods has now been charged in connection with the incident.

The 32-year-old, of Wendover Road, Manchester, has been charged with attempted murder and dangerous driving. He was due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court today (08 May).

Woods was remanded into custody. Chief Superintendent Colette Rose, of GMP's Trafford district, said: "On behalf of our officers we’d like to thank the local community for their concern and well wishes to our injured colleague.

"Every day our officers respond to incidents with the aim of helping the public and keeping them safe and do not expect or deserve to be targeted in this way."
