Ashton on Mersey School celebrates record-breaking GCSE results

Ashton on Mersey School is celebrating an extraordinary achievement as the Class of 2024 secures its best-ever GCSE results.

Students have excelled across a broad spectrum of subjects, setting new school records and paving the way for bright futures, with many opting to continue their education at Ashton on Mersey Sixth Form.

Among the standout achievements, 15 students earned the top grade of 9 in Maths, with an additional 15 achieving the same exceptional grade in English Language or Literature. This year, 59 per cent of students achieved a strong pass (grade 5) in both English and Maths, another record for the school. A remarkable 25 per cent of all grades awarded were 7 or above, demonstrating the high academic standards achieved by this year's cohort.

In addition to the impressive overall performance, there were individual success stories that highlighted the dedication and hard work of the students. The top-performing student achieved an astounding eight grade 9s.

Headteacher Lee McConaghie expressed his pride in the students, saying, “The Ashton on Mersey School community is celebrating once more. Following student success at Key Stage 5 last week, it was another emotional and proud day of smiles and handshakes, this time for the Year 11 cohort of 2024. These examination results once more prove that if we believe in young people and provide them with a high-quality education, they can secure outcomes that are as strong as anywhere in the country."

With many students choosing to stay on at the school’s Sixth Form, the future looks bright for this record-breaking cohort!
