Ashby’s Greengrocers confirms pre-Christmas closing date

Ashby’s Greengrocers has confirmed it will close on Friday 20 December, marking the end of its three-year journey in Sale’s Stanley Square.

In an update shared on social media this morning (09 December), Abbey Davis and Ashley Goulson reflected on their time running the independent shop, thanking customers for their support and sharing their bittersweet farewell, saying we have had an amazing three years, met so many lovely people and learnt a lot of lessons along the way (mainly not to open your own business 😅).”

Known for its fresh, organic produce and delicious lunchtime salads, Ashby’s offered ethical food choices and friendly service. However, in September this year, they announced that they had put the business up for sale. The pair explored numerous ways to sustain Ashby’s but ultimately concluded that it “wasn’t meant to be.” Despite this, they remain proud of their efforts, saying “we will be sad to see Ashby’s go but we know we gave it our all.”

In true community spirit, Abbey and Ashley will donate any remaining food stock to local food banks and have opted not to hold a closing-down sale. For those hoping to pick up a final salad, a loaf of fresh bread or some of the shop’s popular “posh crisps and olives,” the owners encourage customers to visit before their final day.

The message also teased a positive future for the unit, stating that Stanley Square “have a brilliant new tenant lined up for when we move out.”

Residents and visitors who have enjoyed Ashby’s produce have until Friday 20 December to pay a final visit and say goodbye. We will be sad to see it go.
