Summer 2023: What’s on at Waterside?
Sale’s favourite arts venue offers a programme of creative events, performance and exhibitions for families and adults throughout July and August.

For younger families, Buzz is the perfect performance to keep the little ones enthralled. Specialist children’s theatre company Colour The Clouds tell the beautiful story of a young worker bee who doesn’t think that what she does really matters; there are hundreds of other bees doing the same role as her, would anyone notice if she just didn’t bother? At only 30 minutes, families will love this interactive performance filled with musical and physical storytelling, perfect for ages 3+.
For children wanting to explore their theatrical side Waterside’s Summer School with Artful Playground is just the ticket. Children will have sessions in acting, singing, dance/movement, text and character and will work together with course leaders to put together a show on the final day for friends and family. The course takes place daily over a week with two streams for younger and older children.

Families can unleash their creativity at our series of Waters & Wildlife Summer Workshops. These free, drop-in arts and crafts sessions take place at HIYA, Stanley Square in Sale town centre, where kids can take part for a couple of hours and create something brilliant with their grown-ups.
Over the August Bank Holiday weekend families and adults can enjoy two film screenings in our accessible ‘Pay What You Can’ programme, with The Super Mario Bros. Movie and a Sing-A-Long Rocketman to choose from.
Adults can enjoy a new programme of events and exhibitions this summer; Manchester Made. The Manchester Made headline exhibition in Waterside’s Lauriston Gallery, features artworks by 40 Greater Manchester artists and makers, including craft, ceramics, glass, print and sculpture; in Gallery ’74 Li / Lu is a solo display by Manchester-based fine artist, Sam Owen Hull and the Manchester Made Craft Fair is a one day selected tabletop fair of high-quality contemporary craft, presented in partnership with Jo Lavelle, co-founder of Sale Arts Trail.
For adults interested in developing their writing skills, theatre maker, writer and facilitator Amy Vreeke leads a creative writing workshop based on themes of maternal mental health. The session includes activities to help develop creative tools and explore the journey of pregnancy, birth and parenthood.
